Colonel
Campbell restored and renovated the property in the 1960's.
This included the creation of a steep driveway up to the house.
Prior to this time the only access route was by foot or by
train. The Colonel was quite a character and was featured
in a BBC documentary titled the "Campbells Came by Rail".
Before road access was possible the Colonel had a private
train with a siding at Campbell's Platform.
He was also a great friend of the railway and used his explosives
expertise to help blast the new route for the railway. The
railway volunteers, or "deviationists" as they were
known, lived in the cottage whilst the works were underway.
